Taiwan is a mountainous island with more than 200 peaks over 3,000 meters above sea level. With the unique geographical location, vast hilly terrain and moist weather, Taiwan provides a suitable environment for tea trees to grow, even the best place in the world. The environment brews special aromas and taste of tea leaves. Tea trees are planted from northern Taiwan to southern Taiwan, with different types and flavors, and they are all in high quality.

Taiwanese tea culture includes tea arts, traditional tea ceremonies, and the social aspects of tea consumption. While the most common teas consumed in Taiwan are oolongs,  but black tea and green tea are also popular. Many of the classical arts can be seen in the tea culture, such as calligraphy, flower arts, and incense arts. Most people in Taiwan drink tea, and tea serves not only as a drink, but also as a part of the culture.

The tea culture of Taiwan can be traced back to 1717, in Qing Dynasty. Native species of tea tree were found. Later, along with immigrants from China, more species were brought into the island, so did more tea production skills. For the 300 years followed by, tea became one of main export products and many countries in America and in Europe were customers.

The culture of Taiwanese tea has been going on for more than a hundred years. It's an indispensable part of local life. From adulthood to weddings, daily life to business, life of Taiwanese centers on tea.

On public occasions, tea is usually used to receive guests. Fine tea is also one of the best choice while considering giving a present. For those who is allergic to alcohol, it's still polite to have tea in replace of wine in various banquet.
