Cactus ice is made of cactus pulp. It has a sweet and sour taste and is close to the original taste of cactus fruit.

Traditional PengHu fried wedding cake

Penghu fried wedding cake is traditional snack that is unavailable in Taiwan. Fried wedding cake will be distributed to friends and relatives when a man is married in Penghu. Sending fried dates not only stands for sharing a good fortune, but also a symbol of dignity.

Except for wedding, Penghu fried wedding cake can also be seen in major festivals such as the Chinese New Year and Ching Ming Festival.

It is a hand-kneaded  glutinous rice balls stuffed with bean paste(豆沙), sesame, and peanuts. After fried, the wedding cake will be sprinkled with black and white sesame.

Because the steps for making fried dates are quite complicated, it is difficult to taste such traditional Penghu snack now, only several shops are selling.

South Penghu Marine National Park

The South Penghu Marine National Park, the ninth national park and the second marine national park of Taiwan, was born in 2014 after ratified by the Executive Yuan and announced by Ministry of the Interior. It is located between Wangan (望安) and Chimei (七美) of Penghu and consists of four main islands (Dongjiyu, Xijiyu, Donyupingyu,Xiyupingyu) and many islets, rocks and surrounding waters.

China coastal current, a branch of Kuroshio current and south China sea current meet in his area.  They bring abundant nutrient which nourish bountiful marine life. There are 254 fish species recorded here and at least 28 of them are newly recorded species in Penghu. Besides, the seas around the islets feature large clusters of Acropora (鹿角珊瑚) coral and a diversity of fish and shells living among the reefs.  The four islands of southern Penghu have not been over-developed, thus all the resources such as natural ecology, geological landscapes or historical monuments remain original, low-polluted and natural appearances.

The geology of the four Penghu southern islands archives the last volcanic eruptions in Taiwan Strait during the Cenozoic(新生代) and Mesozoic(中生代). So,  South marine national park is also known for magnificent basalt terrains, especially the spectacular basaltine columns.

Except for biological value, historical and cultural sites here are also worthy visiting. The unique low-roofed houses were built by piling up white rocks (coral reef rocks) and black rocks (basalt rocks). The design of western style houses was a mixing of western and Japanese style.
